Sunday’s update

April 26th, 2009

They did some tests on Trey and have mixed news that adds up to this: they are going to continue treat him and do more tests.

They have found gangrene in his pancrease which they have taken samples of to culture. It will take a couple of days for it to grow and will help them choose between two types of operations. Draining the gangrene or surgically removing the infected parts.

I’ve been told neither is a good option, but there have been good signs. He was taken off sedation yesterday and became responsive in many ways. He looked around, staired at a get well balloon and followed people with his eyes. He also beathed on his own a little bit. The doctors say everything is working accept his pancreas, which was a concern.

Jennifer had done a bunch of reading about the process and for those of us who worry about the quality of doctors, according to what little we know they seem to be doing exactly what they should be. Treys condition was already a bit severe to take things slowly, but they seem to be on track with aspirations ( drawing fluid with needles) and their choice of what do next.

I hope the information is helpful,
Jesse

Trey is in the hospital, without insurance

April 25th, 2009

He was diagnosed with Pancreatitis, probably due to his drinking. Since then his lungs have stopped working and machines are breathing for him.

He hasn’t improved in weeks, so they are doing a biopsy tomorrow at 10am to determine whether or not to continue treatment or to remove life support.

This site will be updated with more information as it comes. Feel free to makes comments to each other to help in the communication process. Also, it might be a good gesture to post photos, thoughts,  or stories. It’s probably prudent to mention the donation button to the right, the money will go to medical expenses as he is currently without insurance.
